Happy Holi - Parenting Tips from Edu-Paedia Preschool

www.edu-paedia.org
Greetings from the Edu-Paedia family!

Happy Holi …..The festival of Holi represents the importance of being good , keeping faith in what we do and the power of love and affection.

The  world today is filled with harsh and cruel reality of  unhappiness, selfishness and  violence. Yet we talk of realising the potential of our children. How we do that? One way is to, “catch them right “. How to do that?
The power of praise and a simple hug or a pat is immense. Most of the time we use two words “DON’T  and NO.” with our children. Our conversation is peppered with these two words..  We think, we are teaching them not to do something. This is negative reinforcement , instead, lets identify the things done well by our children. Suppose your child wakes up with a smile, hug your child. You have reinforced that it’s a good thing to wake up in a cheerful mood. If the child finishes the food in the tiffin box, pat the child and praise the child in front of the grandparents or neighbours. Your child will walk 6 inches taller and do anything for you.
Make time to listen to your child, be interested in what your child shares, it is also reinforcing the habit of sharing and communicating. A smile, a pat on the back, a high five or even a thumbs up will go a long way in reassuring the child and building their self-esteem. Create a CATCH RIGHT corner in your house, where you can add tokens  of good behaviour and deeds.
Only by reinforcing the right behaviour, can we chase the dream of excellence.
Happy Catching them right.

Parenting Tips - Edu-Paedia Pre-School

EDU-PAEDIA
Date: 25th February, 2017.
Dear Parent,
Greetings from the Edu-Paedia family!

Each one of us is born happy. Do you remember the beatific smile your child had till he /she turned 7-8 months old? The child is blessed with a sunny nature. It believes the world is all good. When does its small mind begin to get tainted?  When it makes a connection with the outside world, begins to explore beyond its comfort zone it comes across many experiences. Some are the same as the experiences at home and some in complete contrast to what it sees at home. The child also begins to think and question when its senses are fully developed and it begins to develop a sense of I.. Exploring and making sense of what it sees, hears will be a continuous process. We cannot stop this exploration. Yet understanding this, we could continue to create a cocoon of happiness through some of our actions:
1. Buy happiness everyday by telling the child it is a most needed commodity. Label a smile as costly and ask the child to buy it from you. Thank you, Sorry can be two happiness coins that can be given to the child and ask them to spend it big.
2. Ask your child to name things which make it happy and draw happiness charts.
3. Create an ATM account of Happiness in your house and put notes of happiness in it by appreciating your child. For example, give drinking milk a notional value and deposit it in the account. Playing in the park can be another happiness note and can have some value. At the end of the week ask the child to count the number of happiness notes it has and reward it with an activity the child like to do.
4. Become your child’s happy friend. Share happiness episodes with your child for five minutes. Ask your child to share one happiness episode with you.

We have been sharing our ideas with you. We would love to hear from you also. Do write to us info@edu-paedia.com  or call us on  9148151087 / 9148151085

Parenting Tips

Greetings from the Edu-Paedia family.

We live in a world which is a melting pot of cultures. A question that has been bothering me is how do I define who I am ... I am an Indian but what is my identity? A strange question is it not?

With the innumerable influences, we are exposed to, our young wards with an innocence embrace everything they see, hear and experience.  Our young ones should with pride proclaim that they are Indians.  Let us share with them the stories of our great patriots, tell them about our culture and traditions. Let them not grow up wondering what is Indian culture. Our culture is simple. It is about togetherness, sharing and giving back something to society.  It is about respecting elders and respecting our flag, national anthem and our national holidays.

With the Republic Day, just a few days away, let us make it a personal celebration. Make sweets at home, celebrate the nation and spread the joy of being an Indian. Encourage your child to go in the neighbourhood and wish everyone on the Republic Day. We would thus create a sense of national pride.

HAPPY PARENTING.

Happy Makara Sankranti, Lohri, Bihu, Pongal, Uttarayan

Greetings from the Edu-Paedia family!

Happy Makara Sankranti, Lohri, Bihu, Pongal, Uttarayan

We hope that your child has shared the significance of Sankranthi with you and has taken your blessings . Let us encourage them to visit two more neighbours and share the ‘yellu bella’.
There is a saying in Kannada "yellu bella thindu olle maathadi" that translates to 'eat the mixture of sesame seeds and jaggery and speak only good.
Looking for the good, seeing the good, hearing the good and speaking the good creates a positive outlook. There is enough violence and cruel things happening in the world. In the formative years, if we create a culture of identifying goodness, we can mould and nurture emotionally strong and happy children. Encouraging children to follow a few traditions and cultural practices at home, creates an awareness of their roots and they are quick to follow it. Discuss with children the significance of thanking the mother earth for her bountiful creations. The harvest time indicates the kindness of nature and we need to teach our children to respect nature and be thankful.
